Thanksgiving Feast with Activity Day Girls

We moved into a new town home in April of this year.  A few months later they put me into Activity Days in our new ward.  I love working with the 8 and 9 year old girls!  We have an activity 2 times a month.  One activity is at my home and the other at the other leaders home.  When activity days rolls around each month my family is so wonderful to help get everything set-up.   

 

Emma loves to help with everything.  This was a perfect job for her, putting clementines into a basket for the centerpiece.

I wanted to give the girls something little to tell them I am thankful to be one of their Activity Day leaders.  I decided to make a Thanksgiving trail mix.  All you need is pretzels, Swedish fish, Cheerios, M & M's and candy corn.  When I taught Kindergarten I would put all of the ingredients into a gallon sized Ziploc bag and have the students help me mix up the trail mix.  They loved it!

 



 

Emma had to help with this as well.:)  I love this little girl. 

 



 

When it was all mixed up I put a few scoops of the trail mix in a Ziploc baggie.

 

 My mom found these cute brown bags at the Target $ section.  I put the baggie in the brown paper bag.

 

Here are the completed trail mix bags for each girl.  We found the idea for the tag on the bag from Marci Coombs.  It worked perfectly for my Activity Day girls.

I love the way the table turned out.  I made place cards so the girls knew where to sit.  The leaf confetti and corn in the basket came from Hobby Lobby.  All of the fall things there are 80% off.

 I am so thankful I have this sweet girl in my life.  She is my little buddy!



 

At the last activity I gave them a note asking them to bring a certain food item for our feast.  Some of the foods we had were: carrots, celery, olives, ranch dip, popcorn, rolls, mini marshmallows, pickles, grapes, cheese, apples, bananas, cookies, and pumpkin pie.  We talked about table manners before we had our feast.  

 

After the feast the girls wrote things they are thankful for from A to Z.  I was really impressed with the girls.  They were trying to think of things for every letter.  Click HERE if you would like to have a copy of the I Am Thankful A to Z page.







Then we made this cute thankful turkey.  I cut out the box, turkey, and feathers on my silhouette machine.   The students can put out the turkey for the month of November and strips of paper.  Family members can write something they are thankful for on a strip of paper anytime they would like during the month of November.  They will place the paper in the turkey box.  When Thanksgiving day comes they can read what everyone is thankful for before or after dinner.  The turkey also makes a cute decoration.:)

The girls went home with these things.  It was a great activity!  I can't wait for the next one.:)

Catch Up

 

Oh my!  I can't believe how long it has been since I last posted.  Let's go back to December 2014.  I had a little boy.  He has been an absolute joy.  He is a mommy's boy.  I love him so much!  He will be 1 on December 17th.  Where does the time go?

 

 

 When I came back to teaching, after my maternity leave, my amazing Kindergarten team had all of the students write their names on a Welcome Back sign and they left me gifts.  I felt so loved!  It really made my day. 

 

 While on maternity leave I made the decision to not teach this year.  It was a really hard decision because I love teaching Kindergarten!  I will always have a special place in my heart for K.  I would love to go back one day, but for right now I know that I need to stay home with my sweet kids.  I think they are enjoying having me home every day just as much as I love being with them. 

 

My beautiful sister RuthAnne got married in July.  She had an amazing wedding reception.  She had a donut, soda, and candy bar.  I helped her with all of the chalkboard signs.  It was a lot of fun to help her make her wedding plans come to life!  At the same time I was helping her with all of the signs I was trying to finish up the school year, and move everything out of my classroom.  It was crazy, but everything worked out.

In September I started preschool with my daughter and my cousins daughter.  I am so glad that I can continue teaching!  I hope to have more students as soon as we finish our basement.  I will make sure to post more of our adventures in preschool soon.

2D Shape Sorting

Who loves the dollar store as much as I do?  I would go there every week if I could.  I found the neatest containers there the other day.  There are 4 shape containers for $1.  I thought they would be a perfect shape sorting activity for my Little Cutie.

 

 

To do the activity you will need to buy the containers from the Dollar Tree.

 

Then cut out the four basic shapes: rectangle, square, circle, and triangle.  I used all different colors of fun foam.  You can also use paper. 

 Set out the containers and shapes, and have your child or student sort them.

Little Cutie did really well, and it was a perfect activity for her to do while I was making dinner. :)

I Know the Letter...A

Good evening everyone!  I hope you are having a wonderful night.  I wanted to stop by and show you my new series, I Know the Letters.  The first letter I have completed and posted to TPT is letter A.  Little Cutie and I had fun playing some of the games and doing the worksheets.  Check out some of the letter A activities we did:

Little Cutie gluing items that begin with A in the correct shape.  She did so well with this.  Don't you just love how she sticks out her tongue when she is concentrating?:)

 Next, Little Cutie would say a color and we would pick up that apple to see if the uppercase A or the lowercase a was under it.

 

  Then we sorted the A's in the correct container.
 

We added the letter A car to The Alphabet Express.

These pages you search and find the letter in the middle of the mat.

These A books include words that begin with the letter a.

The colorful A's is where the students roll the A cube and a die.  They will trace the 'a' the color they rolled on the die. 

Students will roll the A cube to race to the apple on this page.

I love to make file folder games.  This one students will trace and write the letter Aa.  Then sort the A's  on the tree, and the apples that are not A's in the apple basket.

Students will use play dough to make the letter.

 

This is our tracing page.  With a hot glue gun trace the letters.  Students will then trace the letters with their finger.

My Sweet Little One

Good morning everyone!  I wanted to stop by the blog to let you know some exciting news.  On December 17th I had my second child, a sweet little boy.  He is such a good baby.  I have so much love for him.  My 2 year old loves her little brother too.  She always asks me, "Kiss him?"  Then she will kiss him on the forehead 2 to 3 times.  I love being a mom!

September 22-26

Hi everyone!  I hope you had a wonderful week.

To start off the week we decorated our shoebox libraries and took them home.  Parents remember to remind your students to put any books that come home in their shoebox library.  The books in your child's library can be counted for their daily reading.  Teachers, if you would like to have your class make their very own My Shoebox Libraries click the link. 

Then we learned about my favorite color...PINK!  We sang the pink song and built the color word in our Build the Color Words book.  This book can be found in my August Centers Galore pack on TPT.

 

 

We also read, Pinkalicious for the color pink.  The students love this book.  After reading the book we colored Pinkalicious and "frosted" pink cupcakes.  This page is part of our Color Word book.  The books will be coming home as soon as we are done with all of the color words.:)

To "frost" the cupcakes we used shaving cream and pink food coloring.  We mixed the frosting together as a class in a gallon sized Ziploc bag.  When the students were done coloring I put some frosting on their cupcake.  They used a popsicle stick to spread the "frosting".  We had a lot of fun with the color pink.

Our shape for the week was Sammy the Square.  We sorted squares and not squares on this chart.  Then we counted how many squares we had and how many not squares we had.  This chart is part of my 2D Shape Fun pack. 

We worked on rhyming words, and since it was apple week we had to throw apples in.  We all had a piece of an apple puzzle, and had to find the friend with the other half that rhymed with our picture.  Then we went to our tables and colored apples red if the pictures rhymed  or yellow if they did not rhyme.  This activity is part of my September Centers Galore pack.  I apologize for the sideways picture. 

The number for the week was #2.  I can't believe how well the students are doing on their number books.  Actually I can believe it, I have smart kids in my class this year. :)  This poster is part of my A 0-20 Student Number Book on TPT.
